Security alert at Miami airport

Post by homeofthebrave »

Looks like the new bin Laden tape has got the Americans on edge:
Security alert at Miami airport

The main airport in the US city of Miami has been evacuated after authorities found what they described as a "possible explosive device".
The device was found during luggage screening at the airport's F terminal, officials said.

All passengers and staff have been told to leave the airport, some eight miles (13km) north-west of Miami, while bomb disposal experts investigate.

The terminal serves United Airlines domestic and international flights.

"A possible explosive device showed up in an X-ray machine at the checkpoint," airport spokesman Greg Chin told the Associated Press news agency.

Television footage showed hundreds of passengers, some with luggage, and airport staff gathered along roads leading to the terminal.

Yeah, but these things turn out to be false alarms. But its better to be safe than sorry.

Urn of human ashes leads to Miami airport evacuation

2 hours, 7 minutes ago

MIAMI (Reuters) - A concourse at Miami International Airport was briefly evacuated on Monday after a luggage screener mistook an urn of human ashes and other suspicious items for a possible bomb, officials said.

Around 2,000 people were ordered out of the airport's concourse F, but allowed back in when the all-clear was given after an hour and a half, said an airport spokesman.

The false alert was partly triggered by what turned out to be a rectangular urn with human ashes, said Transport Security Administration spokeswoman Sari Koshetz.

"It wasn't just that. It was also other objects in the bag that looked suspicious," Koshetz said.
