Turkey's Gul says withdraws from president race
ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Sunday he was withdrawing from the presidential election race after the Islamist-rooted AK Party failed for a second time to secure a quorum in parliament.
"After this time (vote failure) my candidacy is out of the question," Gul told reporters in parliament.
The ruling AK Party failed to obtain the presence of 367 members of parliament to be able to hold a vote on whether to elect Gul as president. He was the only candidate standing.
Seems democracy is good as long it produces pro-western governments......
